Mail - message composing window too wide - How to default to thinner width?

Is there a way to set the default size of a new message composition window to be less wide?

A small point, but one which causes me much frustration as I try and follow what I'm typing across a very long window. Eudora lets you set the width and height of the message composing window, but I see no similar feature in Apple Mail and I could find no similar thread about this on this discussion board.

I'd like to be able to resize the window and have Mail default to that window sizing if possible.

Ho ho! Thank you for helping me see the trees in the forest. What I didn't do was resize a received mail window by opening it, resizing and then closing. When I did that then all my received mail started opening in a smaller window.

Since most of my emails are REPLYs to received email, I wasn't seeing the effect of resizing just newly composed emails.

Thank you very much for pointing this out. You've made my day!
