Reinstalled 1.0 after publishing nightmare- worth upgrading to 1.1.1?

I had endless problems getting my site published, and could not get anything uploaded despite following lots of the advice on these boards. I was having to use a work around and using homepage.mac.com (cheers for your help with that James!), which was great for getting online but a nightmare when I wanted to update anything.

Anyway, in the end I deleted iWeb and reinstalled it from the start up disk. After reading that there weren't the publishing problems with version 1.0, I decided to upload our site from there. So now I have a site at web.mac.com, and it's really easy to update now.

My question to others that have had publishing issues is- is it now worth installing the upgrade to 1.1.1? 1.0 seems to be working well, and I miss out on a couple of features I guess but I can't have them if my website won't upload anyway! Or now that I have my site up and running will it be easier to upload now? I want to set up another site too soon, if I upgrade should I set up the basis of the site now so that I will only be doing updates and not uploading a whole new site?

Has anyone else found that uninstalling then reinstalling AND upgrading to 1.1.1 has helped their publishing issues?

I think you should upgrade. But don't use the Software Update mechanism to do it. Download the iWeb 1.1.1 update directly from Apple from this page...

I don't know what it is, but a lot of issues seem to go away when people do the update this way. Go figure.

Wow James, that was quick! Wasn't expecting a response for a while- it's 7.40am here so I thought the rest of the world was sleeping 🙂
I saw from one of your other posts to get the upload from the website, so I have it downloaded and ready to install, I'll see if I get any other responses from people who have had publishing isues too. I don't want to have to do the install from the disk again- it's a pretty painful process 🙂

Is it really that bad? You just reinstall the iWeb part of things, right? You don't have to do all of iLife.

I didn't work that out until after I had started the upload though, took ages and for some insane reason I decided to start it at 11.40pm... Oh well, who needs sleep when you have a new website... 🙂

James- thank you for all your help on this. I upgraded to 1.1.1 using the download from the website and everything seems to be working really well now- I've been able to update the pages really easily individually (v 1.0 updates the whole site each time) and add comments, email me button etc. Am really pleased with it all now after the problems of before- might actually continue to update now rather than have this be a passing fad! I'll keep checking the message board to learn more about what I can do in iweb!

Hey, that's great to hear. I know...the 1.0.1 to 1.1 update was so full of problems for so many people that I think it scared a lot of people into sticking with iWeb 1.0.1 . Things seem to have smoothed out with 1.1.1 though. I'm glad you are enjoying the new features! Best of luck to you!
