Is there a way that you don't have to partition your disk?

I just bought windows 8 for my mac as i have been having some compatability issues with windows computers for work. I am using boot camp and it is asking me to partition the disk so i have some space for windows. do i have to do this? or is there a way i can skip this so i have full access to the hard disk in both operating softwares?

thank you

partitioning is because windows can't run on apples file system

and osx can't run on windows file system

if you don't need to play 3d games on the mac then will have an easier time and require no partitioning

if you run windows 8 in a virual machine such as free virtualbox or commerical parallels or vmware
