iTunes: won't input photos from my Mac to iPod...

I have been trying and trying to send my photos through to my iPod from my iMac (both of which are only a few days old...), and it doesn't accept them. Music and videos are fine, but the photo problem won't resolve itself. I have followed the online Apple tutorials to the T, but zilch! A message continually pops up after about a minute of trying to send the photos through:

'Preferences were not saved for the "Noel Ballantyne's iPod" because it could not be found.' [Followed by an /OK/ box]

Eloquently put, but it doesn't help me figure this out any. Help anyone, please! Do I need to set something up on my iPod before any of this can happen? I see that there's a "import photos", or maybe another button too that I need to hit first??

Mac, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I haven't been able to find a complete answer to the "Preferences not saved" error or any any knowledge base articles with an official explanation. I did however find a workaround in a previous discussion. If you are updating automatically connect your iPod and in the short time that it is still visible on the desktop just as iTunes is opening, go to Preferences>iPod and tick "enable disk use". You have to be quick but it can be done. Once it is enabled you will be able to go back and update any of the preferences and and you'll not get the error.
