I went to update my I pad 3. As there was 1 Software update showing - it keeps asking for a 4 digit password? What's that all about? I have never had a password for OSX updates. H.E.L.P

I just turned on my I Pad and the settings icon showed 1 update, when I tapped on there is a software update !
When I go to update it is asking me for a code ?
which I don't have or have a Scooby doo ( Clue) about
As I have updated my pad without any pass code before
Any ideas please shout me back
