I am having the same problem trying to do the latest update to the facebook app on my iPhone 5s & Ipad 3rd generation. This app has updated sucessfully before but not this time. All other apps auto updaye with no problems.
Folk's this is easy to solve. Go to the Apple Store and find the apps that Update won't allow you to update. Look for the ACCEPT button on the app at the app store. Push the ACCEPT. Apple will prompt you for your Apple Store password. The download begins.
