Forgot firmware password

I recently bought an early model MacBook Pro from an Ebay dealer. I can't install an admin acct. because of what appears to be a firmware password lock. I have a receipt and took the computer to the Va Bch apple store. The "genius" there refused to help me. Is there a way to resolve this problem?

When you say "early model" which Model did you buy? On the earlier macs pre 2011 you can reset the firmware password by the following Proceedure.

Remove one of the Ram Modules

Reboot the Mac and zap the PRAM by holding down the Command, Option, P, R keys and letting it beep 3 times.

Put back the RAM module that you removed.

Thanks Kevin- got it to work after a variety of steps as you mentioned and then had to go into single user mode a few to get computer to require a new admin account. Didn't work at first as it kept telling me permission denied to enter root but finally I changed location of ram and that worked. After that I had no problems. Thanks for your help!
