We recently upgraded our iMac Intel 17" to S 10.9.2 and now it's crashing on a regular basis. The crash often occurs when viewing Mail but also when online using FireFox. Any ideas?

Hi McCowgirl,

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are talking about hard crashes or freezes where the computer shuts down, restarts, or is completely unresponsive, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

Hey Brenden, thanks for responding. I do not receive any kind of error notification from my iMac. It freezes in different ways - the screen goes white or the screen goes black or the color wheel will show up and the system freezes. When it does not recover, which it very rarely does, I turn it off using the power switch and unplug it from the back for at least 5 minutes. When I restart it, I usually receive the "this is embarrassing, I can't recover anything" message.

This occurs nearly every day. I did add additional memory within the last year. It made a huge difference until I upgraded to 10.9.2.

Hi McCowgirl,

Based on your description, I would definitely try the troubleshooting linked above, especially the portion about troubleshooting potential RAM issues. You may also want to try running Apple Hardware Test to see if it detects any memory issues (you may need to run extended or looping testing):

Apple Support: Using Apple Hardware Test

Also, I'm not entirely sure which "embarrassing" message you are referring to; do you happen to have the exact text of the message?

- Brenden
