Folder permissions on NAS

We have a Netgear ReadyNAS on our local office network. I copied some files to it and now I want to delete them. But when I try, the OS does a count, and then I get the following error message: "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items". Can someone suggest what's going on here? I've posted this question to the Netgear forum, but I've never gotten very good response to those queries.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9), 2.3 GHZ Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM

Bob,

This is quite simple to fix as long as you have access to ReadyNAS Frontview. You can access it in the web browser by going to the ReadyNAS address/admin (ex. http://192.168.1.15/admin) You will need the Admin User name and password. The default was admin / netgear1 but should have been changed when the ReadyNAS was setup.

Once you are logged into Frontview go to the Share isting and click on the protocol of the share that you are having problems with (this will look like a document with a pencil in it). Next click on the Advanced tab. Then put a check in the box next to "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems.", and then hit Apply.

This can take up to 30 minutes, but when done you will be able to delete the files that you want to on the NAS.
