Mac Pro Memory Configuration

Hi,

You'll find here-under two links about a Mac Pro memory spreadsheet.

It's the same spreadsheet on both links, only the presentation is different.

It was very tough for excel to do the following one with 1024 MB Ram only.

I did order another two 512 MB, I believe that 4 Go could be a good compromise for me.

Hi all,

Thanks for your nice comments.

Today i'm 1A, waiting for UPS to become 2A and surely will end up 6A.

If i forget one day the price paid for 2 x 512 MB i could test the pleasure of 8A.

My configurations will go from 2A (CTO from Apple) then to 4B then maybe to 6A. 6GB is more than enough for me and I'm actually hoping that 4GB is as well to save be buying more RAM to go to 6GB.

Mine will immediately be at 6a to start and if that is not enough than i will sell the 4 512 and get 4 1gb. But 6gb of ram should really be enough. Or make it 7gb just sell 2 512 and get 2 1gb. First i need the better video card since i cancelled it to get the box faster

For 4 gig config 4B, it shows two 1 gig DIMMs in the upper rise and four 512 megs DIMMs in the lower riser. That's opposite of Apple's instructions, no? Apple shows two pair, one in the upper and one in the lower riser, and then the third pair would go in the upper riser, not the lower one.

Same question applies to 8C.

Are we matching total RAM capacity per riser rather than slot address order?

Yup… the 4B configuration is correct and so is 8C. The pairs are installed in either Slot 1 and 2 on either Riser or Slots 3 and 4 on either Riser. The pairs are on the same riser, not across the risers.

I have the same question about config 4B. It's been some time since the original post -- can someone weight in on this? I'm going back and forth between 4A & 4B (currently 2A).

Apples explanation for FCP. Same thought process though, and is the correct configuration table straight from the horses mouth.
