I know this probably isn't the right place for this question, but I couldn't find any other forum that came close.
I have some songs in my iTunes that have a .m4a extension, and I need to decode and convert them to a .mp3. I have a tool to convert them but I still need to decode them first. Any ideas ?
Use iTUnes.
iTunes prefs -> Advanced -> IMporting. Set it to .MP3 and the bit rate you want.
Select the files you want converted, then got to menu Advanced -> Convert to MP3.
Well, I opened iTunes, at the top is the Advanced tab but it doesn't have Import as an option. Import is an option under File but I import the song and it's just there, doesn't give me an option on how to set it to mp3.
Sorry, technology hates me ... can you dumb this down a little for me ? Thanks.
Oops, never mind I got them converted over to MP3s ... thanks man, greatly appreciated !!
Oh, how do I do this same thing with a song that's just on my harddrive ? It doesn't give me a Browse option when I get to the Importing area, so if it's not on a cd, then it won't let me.
Okay, I tried that and it imported it to my iTunes but it keeps showing up as an .m4a file, never gives me the option to change it to mp3 even though I have the pref in Importing set to encode as a mp3.
Not sure if this is a factor but I have this song in my iTunes already. I tried deleting it several times in case it was just reading the one that was already there but it keeps importing it as the same one even when the song isn't in my iTunes anymore.
P.S. I've completely deleted it out of everywhere, except one copy on my desktop and I renamed that file, but it still adds it to iTunes with the original name and extension.
No good, I Imported it from the desktop but it put it in my iTunes under the original file name and as a m4a. Then, when I tried to convert it, it said it "could not be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats.
