Thanks for the question. While the iPhone 4 is capable of playing back .mp4 file formats, this issue may stem from how this particular video was encoded. However, you could download the video to your computer and create an iPhone Version for playback on your device:

Thanks for the followup. If it doesn’t play on your computer either it sounds like the issue is with the video itself. You may want to consult with your buddy to see if he can send you a different version, etc.
