Hardware synth patch lists in Logic

Although I use the internal instruments with great success, I have several hardware synths that I would like to use with Logic but when creating a new multi instrument in the environment, have no idea how to put in the patch list of presets for it,i.e.a Korg X5DR or a proteus FX. I know they are ancient but I do like some of the sounds in them.
Any ideas on this one please?

Thank you

Hi James,

I have a Korg 05R/W in my setup. I created the multi-instrument in the environment. After you create it, double click on the top part of the object. It opens a patch list. Here, I had to manually enter all the patch names from the Korg manual. I also had to make a custom bank command and enter the MSB and LSB codes to select between the GM and A banks on the Korg.

After that was done, I can now select any sound right from the arrange window.

Let me know if I can help you further or if you want me to clarify what I did. I can even email you my Autoload template if you wish. I would imagine that the X5DR is somewhat similar to the 05R/W.

My main synth is a Yamaha Motif ES8. I was able to use the environment objects that someone had already created and posted at motifator.com. I could not find one for the Korg, so I had to do it myself, but it's fairly easy, just a lot of typing!

Cheers!
Ken

jblen, there are several websites around with lists of factory preset names for synths in text format.

It is possible to take a simple text list of preset names, copy them 64 at a time, and just paste them onto your blank lists in the environment for the synth concerned. Saves typing them all in one at a time.

You may need to use the define custom bank contol list to define the MIDI message for your synth if one of the preset lists don't work. I had to do this for a Proteus 2500 and a Korg Wavestation.

Also, another tip if you have a synth like a Roland Fantom with expansion cards in, you will run out of lists because of so many presets!! I found I had to create a second Multi-Instrument to continue after where the first one ran out of space.

Hope that helps,

Rik
