why do my tv episodes go to a black screen midway through the episode?

I just purchased a Marvel Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. episode and when I played it, everything was going fine until halfway through the episode, the screen goes black and I get an error message saying windows desktop manager has stopped working and itunes has stopped working. I even tried watching one of my old CSI:NY episodes and I still get the same result, if anyone has suggestions as to what I should do please let me know.
