Earpod Remote Volume Control NOT Working

Have an issue with the volume control on Apple Earpods and my iPhone 5.

I've tested this with other volume control Earpods and it's replicating there as well.

Effecitlvey the volume control works for a short whle on the iPhone then stops working. The control button still works but volume control doesn't work.

BEFORE YOU GIVE ADVICE please read the following:

I've cleaned the port out.

I've removed and reinserted the Earpods and this does sometime resolve the issue.

I've closed down apps and fully restarted the iPhone which does sometimes resolve the issue.

The issue always returns within a few songs.

If you've had this problem and found a permanent fix I'd be interested. I am starting to suspect that it is a software bug however.

I don't really want some temporary fix.

Hello there, ResetIDAgain.

Great job so far with the troubleshooting you have done. The following Knowledge Base article provides some additional recommendations for the issue you're describing:

Particularly:

The stereo headset buttons are not functioning properly

  1. Verify the headset being used is compatible with the iPhone.
  2. Verify there is no debris in the headset jack.
  3. Insert the stereo headset and play audio using the Music app. Verify both left and right channels are functioning.
  4. Press the center button to see if it can pause and resume audio.
  5. Make a phone call and see if the microphone is working.
  6. If the issue persists, try another headset.
  7. If the issue persists with another headset, have the iPhone serviced.

Please re-read the original post; then match it against this advice.

  1. Verify the headset being used is compatible with the iPhone. - EARPODS (you know Apple own brand headphones)
  2. Verify there is no debris in the headset jack. - cleaned out the port.
  3. Insert the stereo headset and play audio using the Music app. Verify both left and right channels are functioning. - again see original post.
  4. Press the center button to see if it can pause and resume audio. - centre button referred to as "control button" in the original post.
  5. Make a phone call and see if the microphone is working. - not the issue as described and not relevant.
  6. If the issue persists, try another headset. - again see the original post.
  7. If the issue persists with another headset, have the iPhone serviced.
So basically after ignoring all of the comments in the above posting the advice is that the deice is faulty.
    Why can't we downvote replies?
