My iphone carrier is T-mobile in US and my iphone 4 is locked to that. I asked T-mobile to unlock my iphone and they send me an e-mail as following:
"
Dear Customer,
The removal of your iPhone SIMlock has been forwarded to Apple. After Apple removed your SIMlock (within 48 hours) please follow these instructions:
The SIMlock removal can be done with a inserted SIMcard from Telekom, a SIMcard from a different carrier or completely without SIM. It is strongly recommended to make a backup of your data first.
1. Connect your iPhone to iTunes (with or without inserted SIM).
2. Start the recovery (reset the iPhone to factory settings)
3. If no SIM has been inserted, you receive a message in iTunes that your iPhone has been successfully unlocked.
If this procedure is not successful, follow these steps:
1. Turn your iPhone off.
2. Keep the home-button pressed and simultaneously connect the USB cable to your computer and your iPhone. The computer must be started and iTunes should already installed on this computer. iTunes should start automatically - if this is not the case then please start iTunes manually.
3. Keep pressing the home-button until the USB-symbol appears - then release the home-button.
4. Start the recovery of the iPhone in the iPhone menu at 'General' >> 'Reset' >> 'All Settings'
5. If no SIM has been inserted, you receive a message in iTunes, that your iPhone has been successfully unlocked.

I tried it many times but I see my iphone is not unlocked. I have not received any message as like "my iPhone has been successfully unlocked". My iphone 4 IMEI is ******** and serial number is 5K*******A4S. Please check if it is unlocked or not and help me to unlock it. Best, ilhami...
