Export to EDL for Flame

Hi
I would like to take my project online, I have an option to digitize online with flame system. The flame guy asked me for an EDL, but I'm not sure how to export the sequence so it will open with no problems. I don't need my transitions and audio. I'm using PAL system.
Thanks
Kobi

OK, here are the caveats I can remember off the top of my head. One video track only. If you have more than one video track, export multiple edl's, one for each video track. No digital files as sources (picts, aiffs, etc.). You may be able to get away with digital files, but you may not. Try doing a test first. Freeze frames may (or may not) be a problem. Speed changes, probably not a good idea. Most effects will not transfer and might give you problems. Only simple transitions (also known as "switcher transitions") such as dissolves and certain wipes will transfer.

You might check out automatic duck and see if their export plug in will get you a file format that will work with the flame. Do a google, to check out their web site. I've used their plug in to export audio for use in protools and it worked flawlessly.

The real key is to run tests before you're in a mission critical deadline.

I'd keep the transitions, export a CMX 3600 EDL... then duplicate your sequence, and remove the transitions and export that... let him decide what he wants to use between them. If you have video layers, don't export more than two of them at a time. He'll need to marry these in the Flame. export with NO nests... (un nest them if they are there)

You could remove your audio from the sequence too, then just create an aiff of it or whatever for him to use.

Audio mapping shouldn't matter if you've deleted all the audio. The reel conflict choices are for if you've got a transition between 2 shots from the same source. B reel edits will generate a second edl to copy one side of the transition to another source. Pre-read will setup the edit for working in an online suite where you're editing to a format that allows preread (a pretty amazing technique where you're actually reading the outgoing shot and then replacing it with a transition). Not sure what the generic edit option will do. Give it a try. If you want to zap me the edl, I'll take a look as see if anything looks dicey.

I would try the preread option. A nonlinear system like the flame should be able to handle it. If you want me to review your edl, you should probably send me a fcp project with the sequence and the edl you've exported. Be sure and archive the files before attaching to an email (control click on the files in the finder and choose archive). my email address is in my profile.

Kobi, I looked at your edl. Here's a sample event

002 001 V C 01:45:54:10 01:45:57:15 01:00:06:24 01:00:10:04
* FROM CLIP NAME: MINZAR_OUT
* COMMENT:
* CLIP FILTER: FLOP COPY

The clip filter may cause problems. You might be safer removing any filters before exporting the edl. Just add a comment describing the effect. At least have the place with the flame do a test import and see if there are any problems. Are all your sources from the same reel? That's the way they seem to be indicated.
