HELP!! Wedding Photos to save!

I was running aperture 3.4.1 on my mac book pro with mavericks, aperture library is located on an external harddrive, backed up to timemachine and vaults (on two hard drives). I had been work in aperture fine on asome wedding photographs I took for a friend. I shut aperture down and restarted a day or so later and it just sits and does nothing. Most of the menu items and grayed out, those that aren't don't allow you to do anything. I have tried launching it with at the library available, restoring from a back up both the library and software. I have tried to boot for the library repair tools its wont do that. Final I uninstalled it and down loaded 3.5.1 from the app store say problems. Hope you can help guys as I'm getting desperate!

Possibly the permissions on the external drive need to be repaired. If you go to the disk utility and run "Verify" disk permissions on the drive. You can then repair it if needed. It is a failry quick process. I have had this problem before.

Also, my suggestion is to ALWAYS BUY APPLECARE!!! They are great and if you have it, I suggest you call them. I cannot stress to you enough how valuable that is to a photographer. Good luck!!!
