Can't connect iPhone keynote remote via network created by mbp

I can use the keynote app installed on my iphone to control the keynote on my mac when connecting a wifi that have internet connection. But when I connect my iphone to the network created by my mbp, i can't use it. Why it happened? is that means i need a internet connection or not every accessport can do such a work?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)
