Late 2012 Mac Mini to HDTV

I recently purchased a late 2012 Mac Mini for use as a headless music server in my hi-fi audio system (arrived today). I don't have a monitor to use for initial set-up/configuration, so I would like to use my HDTV. Since my HDTV and Mac Mini both have an HDMI port, it seems logical to me to connect the two via HDMI cable. But curious to know if it's as easy as that, since I've yet to find one article that gives this simplistic approach as a recommended way.

I'm not concerned with audio/video quality; only care about getting thru the set-up process and get the Mac Mini up and running.

1) Can I use an HMDI cable to connect the Mac Mini to the HDTV?

2) If not, what cable/adapter do I need?

Mac mini, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
