Q: iTunes 11.2 crashing

I just upgraded iTunes and OS X Mavericks to the latest versions (11.2 and 10.9.3 respectively). iTunes now crashes consistently (100%). It runs for about 10 seconds and then it's spinning beach ball time. I re-downloaded and re-installed iTunes 11.2 with the same results. I tried selecting another iTunes library (on my network attached server) on start-up and it does the same. Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

    Hi Culero,

The fix of deleting the SyncServices folder is for Mac systems. From your desktop / finder, click the "Go" menu at the top, then "Go to Folder ..." Paste this into the field: ~/Library/Application Support

The SyncServices folder should be in there. I had both a SyncService and a SyncServices folder. The second one should, when deleted, help with the problem you and I both had of iTunes freezing when an iOS device is plugged in.

    Hope this helps

Found the SyncServices folder in Application Support and deleted it.  iTunes still crashes on launch.  Was fine until I upgraded to 11.2.1 this afternoon.

Running in safe mode delays the crash to a few moments later but does not fix, neither does deleting the SyncServices folder.  Removing the network is not an option as my library content is on a NAS box.

Now have 2 iPhones, 2 iPod touches an iPad and a 1st Gen iPad that I can't update any more.  Very poor show Apple.  This is a critical piece of software for a lot of people and to be this fragile is appauling. I hope someone finds a work around soon or Apple produce a fix.

Using Windows 8.1, and experiencing crashes upon startup after downloading 11.2 recently.  Several reboots.  Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.

Workaround by starting iTunes in Safe Mode (holding down Cntrl-Shft).  iTunes functioned after that.

I, too, have had bad luck with the iTunes 11.2 and 11.2.1 updates.  In both cases, the spinning beach ball appeared and I could not access iTunes.

    1.  I tried removng Sync Services folders, both the root and User library. That had no effect.

    2.  I repaired permissions with each failed attempt to run iTunes and found that Safari permissions were being messed up each time.

    3.  I also tried booting into Safe Mode, and booting in recovery mode and repaired the drive, which was getting munged by forced quitting of iTunes.

    4.  Since I have a MBPro Retina with an SSD drive, and the computer operated normally when I logged in as a pure admin User (with not iTunes library), I decided the problem was pecular to the iTunes part of the upgrade, and not the 10.9.3 part.  I needed to get back to iTunes 11.1.

    5.  Fortunately, I had a backup from just 12 hours previously, I was able to restore back to the pre-update state from Time Capsule.  This is the first time in 24 years of using Macs that I have had to nuke the drive and start all over.

    6.  I selectively updated the System to 10.9.3.

Things seems to be fine (after having to re-inform a few functions, wait for Mail to re-import 127,000 emails, etc., but I hope Apple fixes this soon.  The minor tweaks described in the 11.2 update on Apple Store are not worth the hassle.

I've had the same problem.  Update to 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2.  iTunes seems to work fine on the MacBook but as soon as I connect my iPhone or iPad it hangs up and needs to be force quit.  Incredibly frustrating.  I searched for SyncServices per the thread and there was no syncservices folder in the path given but found another one so deleted that but still doesn't work.  Anny one have any other thoughts?

    Thx

    Eric

After removing the syncservices folder I still keep getting stuck on the "Finding purchased items" phase of syncing between an iMac and an iPhone 5s.  I've spent hours trying to get this to work today.  iTunes also fails to sync to my iPads.

Same problem here.  Every time I sign in it immediately gives me a message that the program isn't responding and kicks me out.  I too have tried rebooting, reinstall, repair, previous version and nothing is working.  We need an immediate fix Apple, sheesh!!

    Hi everyone,

    Same problem here.

I deleted anything with SyncServices folder in its name (although I found them in the system folder and not in the application folder as indicated in previous post), and it keeps crashing. I'm unable to start iTunes 11,2,1; As all of you, I'm getting mad at it,  having all my music and podcasts there.

The silence of Apple is driving me crazy. I had a much better image of Apple's customer service (or wathever you call it in English, me being French).

If anyone has got a clue to come back to the previous version of Itunes or any other way to fix the bug, he will have a special place in my personal pantheon.

With Maverics on my iMac, after the latest update every time I plug in my iphone or itouch it causes iTunes to hang: spinning beach ball. Unplugging the device doesn't help. Deleting syncServices does not help. Waiting for Apple to help.

I have the same problem. Turned WiFi off. Ran for about 1 minute, then crashed. It was playing Alanis Morriset, so maybe that was it. Have deleted sync servies folder, re-loaded iTunes. Just crap really.

It's frustrating that with iTunes being the hub of the iOS/OS X integration universe that such a shoddy update was released.  Is it only consumer machines that this fails miserably on?  Are Apple's test machines so pristine that NONE of them ran into this issue?

    Unforgivable!!!

Ditto; Thanks you Spider from me too. Finally working, I was reticent to delete the sync folders in other locations because I don't know what are the consecuences of doing that.

Now it's working, hope that doesn't have bad consequences, but for the moment it's fine, same as usual.

    Thank's again.

Re-download and re-install iTunes, this fixed it for me.
