Q: iTunes 11.2 crashing

I just upgraded iTunes and OS X Mavericks to the latest versions (11.2 and 10.9.3 respectively). iTunes now crashes consistently (100%). It runs for about 10 seconds and then it's spinning beach ball time. I re-downloaded and re-installed iTunes 11.2 with the same results. I tried selecting another iTunes library (on my network attached server) on start-up and it does the same. Any suggestions?

I deleted and re downloaded and it's still crashing.  It worked long enough yesterday afternoon that I was able to sync my iPad and iPhone but today it's not working at all.  I can't believe we haven't heard anything from Apple regarding this.

Did you perform any other updates after the install? 10.9.3 instroduces an issue that the latest iTunes fixes.

Nope.  No other updates after install.  I have a PC not a Mac.

I'm sorry that you don't have a Mac

My solution worked on Mac, so won't necessarily work on a PC...why don't you roll back to an older version of iTunes?

    Hi SwedeP,

Looks like I will have to roll back iTunes aswell.  Unfortunately my last Time Machine backup is over a week old and I don't fancy nuking the whole lot.  Do you know if you can roll back just iTunes by selectively restoring just the iTunes application and the iTunes library?

    Cheers

    Dave

    P.S.

I managed to create a LAN without Internet access and just have my iMac and NAS box with my media on it.  iTunes doesn't crash and I am able to sync a connected iPhone.  Enabling WiFi access to the iMac (and Internet) causes iTunes to crash.

I did a system restore but the older version wouldn't work properly anymore.  I got some sort of language message that stated it wouldn't work because there was a newer version available.  This is getting really old!

    Hi MagicBullet:

I do not think that just swapping the app alone will get rid of 11.2's impact altogether because there are System level preferences and other stuff that it has affected.  There may be System level hooks, too.  But, if not, you might try this:

    1.  Download a copy of AppDelete (assuming you are on a Mac) and fire it up.

    2.  Drag the iTunes 11.2 application out of the Applications folder onto the AppDelete window.

    3.  AppDelete will give you a list of stuff that it recommends deleting.   Look over this list.  If it is mainly just iTunes related plist files and stuff like that, they can probably be safely nuked and might remove the droppings left by 11.2.

    4.  You can select Archive in AppDelete and it will remove, but not totally nuke the files you have checked.

    5.  If you make note of all of these files (and where they live) you can go into your backup and pull the older versions out and restore them, including the iTunes app itself, of course.

Kind of a pain, but short of rolling back to a full restore from TimeCapsule, this may help you get going again.

I right clicked on the iTunes icon and chose "restore previous version" this is the only thing that has worked for me this far.

I am running Wndows 7 and have had nothing but problems since taking the latest update. I have tried changing podcast preferences to manual and it still isn't working. It freezes up for a while upon opening and freezes again when I  try and do anything. It was freezing up while "Updating Artwork" and has also informed me it couldn't save my library file because there wasn't enough memory.  Enough is enough. Please if someone from Apple is monitoring this thread then please fix this issue. How about an easy fix like an additional update for people like me who don't know how to or care to fix it themselves.

Itunes has never crashed on me before. but now ... the only thing that seems to help for me is opening up "preferences" for some weird reason. then closing it after a while. then opening it. It seems to delay the freezing up, I had windows task manager running and watching how much memory Itunes was using it would start at 40k ish then slowly work it's way up to 1,000,000 k and freeze up . I deleted the old copy installed a new copy etc... very irritating that nothing works but opening up a silly window delays the problem. please fix it apple

I upgraded to iTunes 11.2 and OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, resulting in iTunes crashing on opening. Always. Instantly.

I rebooted several times, deleted the SyncServices folder and rebooted.

The upgraded to iTunes 11.2.1. No change.

Reinstalled iTunes and Mavericks. No change.

I can’t delete iTunes or reinstall an old version as I get an error message saying I can’t as it’s part of OS X.

And now my iPhone 5S has decided to stop working. It currently has the connect to iTunes image showing, but iTunes isn’t working.

So now I have no working iTunes and no working iPhone.

Any suggestions? It's become a very frustrating experience.
