Common problem and I need to go to Apple store but is it covered and if not what is the cost?

Assuming you purchased AppleCare, it covers everything other than user-inflicted damage.

Don't know about this being a common problem but if you didn't purchase the AppleCare Plus extended warranty, no.
If not, Apple offers an out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price that pays for an exchange at a significantly reduced price off the full retail sales price. The exchange will be the same iPhone model, storage capacity, and color.
