mavericks doesn't recognize video camera

New Macbook Pro (Retina, Late 2013) doesn't recognize ("see") my JVC Everio when plugged in via USB. Worked fine on my last MBP. Any suggestions?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.9)
