Q: iTunes 11.2 Crashes On Startup

Allowed the suggested upgrade from iTunes 11.1.5 to 11.2.  Unfortunately, iTunes crashes on startup.  I have attemted fixes for previous versions of iTunes to no avail (updating Quicktime, and adding "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to the PATH).

I can successfully launch iTune in safe mode by holding the CTRL-SHIFT keys down.

Anyone else having the same problem?  Anyone know what to do?

iTunes appears to be hung waiting for Network I/O to complete:

I have downloaded podcasts to my iPod for years, but I've not been able to do that for over a month.  Unless Apple can provide a working iTunes that simply installs and works without me having to do anything special, then they are going to lose a long time customer. When family, friends, co-workers, etc. have asked me whether to upgrade or not, I've had to tell them I don't recommend it unless they have a lot of time to screw around with it.

After wasting far more time than anyone should, I've figured out that the refresh/download of podcasts seems to be the area causing iTunes to hang. I'm not sure whether it is a problem with one or more podcast publishers or a iTunes problem.  I don't care. When I refresh a single podcast it takes "forever" (i.e., 5 to 15 minutes) for it to complete something that should take less than a minute. However, refreshing some podcasts never finished (i.e., more than 2 hours) before I killed iTunes.

Once you've subscribed to them podcasts are downloaded directly from the podcast producer, or their hosting service, not from Apple's iTunes servers.

Possibly unrelated, but do you have any podcasts that hail from mevio.com or podsafeaudio.com? You can produce a listing of your feeds if you right click on Podcasts in the sidebar and click Export... Open the resulting .opml file in Notepad or Notepad++ and take a look around.

More likely there is something odd going on with your network traffic, e.g. IPV6 or ISP caching problems, but that's not an area I have any great experience with, nor any idea why it might only affect podcasts.

I don't think IPv6 or ISP caching is a factor, since as I travel around the state, I get the same issue regardless of whose network I'm connected to.

I tried to right click on Podcasts on several different screens, but none of them gave me an Export option.

I looked, but none of my podcasts come from mevio.com or podsafeaudio.com

    Thanks, Don

Now I see, I had my sidebar turned off.

I looked, but none of my podcasts come from mevio.com or podsafeaudio.com

    Thanks, Don
