Scratchy Audio on iMovie

Hi MacTribe, Problem is, I can't import video with audio into iMovie. I can import both OK via Formac Studio TVR, but when I play, sound is extremely rude and loud!
After I separate sound from package, sound still scratchy.
Problem 2: I can use free Vidi downloader for both, then put that into iMovie. BUT after I separate audio from video in iMovie, one little edited "cut" of audio carries whole long original show that I had on pre-imported tape.
Any suggestions on 1: How to get rid of scratchy sound;
or 2: How to separate an audio segment without carrying all of show, even after cutting it from main show?
Thanks, anyone.

Hi Starshine - re reducing the size of the audio segment. Do you mean that after cropping the audio of the whole show, that crop is still the original size. This would be because of iMovie's non-destructive editing feature. To avoid this, turn off the unwanted tracks so their audio is muted, leaving only the cropped segment you want, active.
Then go File>Share>QuickTime>Expert Settings. Then hit 'Share'. Then select 'Sound to AIFF'.

This procedure will isolate the audio segment you want and record it to an AIFF file on your desktop. Its size will have reduced considerably. You can use that audio in any way you want.

Have I understood your problem and needs correctly?
