Basically what I am trying to do is play a movie or video on my tv through HDMI but also be working on something or browsing the internet at the same time. Is that possible?

Thanks for the help but would this work through HDMI without using AppleTV?
System Preferences, Displays, Arrangement - uncheck "Mirror Displays" (and don't use full screen mode).
So I wont be able to put the video in full screen. That is what I wanted to be able to do. If I had AppleTV, could the video be in full screen and then use the other desktop as I please.
If you use VLC, you can have the movie in full screen, no problem.
How to have one part of my screen displaying through hdmi on my tv and then being able to still use my display to do other things at the same time?
