Speaker volume was very low on my iPad 2. The headphone volume worked fine so I checked all settings for the speaker volume but everything was set correctly. The problem was lint in the speaker grille. After cleaning the speaker grille thoroughly using a soft toothbrush the speaker can now be heard loud and clear as it should be.

Hello rymoe,

It sounds like you have some low audio from the iPad speaker. I would recommend these troubleshooting steps from the following article. The name of the article references the iPhone, but the troubleshooting would be the same for the iPad:

iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180

  1. Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
  2. Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
  3. If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
  4. Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
  5. If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
  6. If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
  7. Restart the iPhone.
  8. If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
  9. If the issue is not resolved, please contact Apple Support.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps

1. Go to Settings

2. Tap on General

3. Tap on Reset

4. Tap on Reset All Settings

What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

 Cheers, Tom 😉
