Unlocked Iphone 4s in Switzerland -- SMS problem

Hi Everyone,

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and perhaps offer a suggestion/answer.

I recently moved to Switzerland and before leaving the US I unlocked my Iphone 4s so I could purchase a SIM card here. I bought a prepay SIM card at a store called Migros and it appeared to work fine. I could call numbers here and back in the US and I would receive messages telling me how much money I had left on the card.

Here's the interesting dillemma: I can text message back to the US, but I cannot send or recieve text messages to/from numbers here in Switzerland. Important to note is that my phone was unlocked, I have a swiss number now, regular calls work, and I have attemped to message other swiss numbers with and without the area code. I'm perplexed. My current area code is +41 for switzerland and 077 for this paricular provider.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Since texting is a carrier based function, what did y our carrier have to say about this?

You may not be formatting the local numbers correctly when sending SMS. For in-country SMS you would normally leave off the country code ("+41") . If that doesn't resolve the problem contact your carrier for help (as kb suggested).

Normally if you are texting without the country code you include the leading zero of the phone number. If you are texting WITH the country code, delete the leading zero from the phone number.
