Click outside the box on an empty spot.
I tried that. It didn't work.
What "didn't work"?
Explain what exactly your problem is, and start with telling us what version of Pages you are using.
And whether you are talking about your Mac or iOS gadget.
We can't see what you are looking at.

Hi,
Clicking outside of the text box didn't work in enabling me to use pages as word processor, as I had been before.
I did use the program to create a brochure in which I used the text box feature, but now I can't get rid of it. So I am asking how to do this.
I am on my macbook air. I don't know how to take a screen shot of it.

Menu > Pages > About Pages
What does it say?
command shift 4 and drag over what you want for a Screenshot.

Pages "09 version 4.3
I was sure this has been updated to something much more recent. Confusing.
Ok, got the screen shot, but how do I unload it here?

Thank you Peter and Jerry.
Screen shot above. I know it's not much, but there it is.
In actual fact I can make the text box bigger, but I just want to have the option of not having a text box.
It should be simple, and not actually need a screen shot: just simple instructions. It seems pretty fundamental to me. Does anyone know how to do this?
Best, Angela
Sounds like you opened a Layout template which is made up of nothing but floating Textboxes and Shape/Images.
You need to start from a Word Processing template, they are listed in the Sidebar of the Template Chooser.
Peter
Thank you, Peter. This was helpful.
Though I just downloaded the new version of pages, which fixed it.
Not sure I like the sidebar addition. It makes it harder to navigate around gracefully.
Steve Jobs is missed.
Thank you again! ~Angela
