One Possible SOLUTION! for iMovie "video rendering error: -50"

In summary: Go to the original images from original SD/recording with no edits..... and import/download those directly to iMovie in original format (eg JPG CR2 MOV)..... and let iMovie do the movie processing. It will be much, much happier!

Hi!

I recently inquired about "video rendering error: -50" because I was unable to "share" anything from iMovie that I had edited to death in Lightroom at all, that I had imported into iMovie as a Lightroom slideshow with more than 400 images that had been processed as very, very complex digital art of at least 400 images in LR. Then I made a discovery:

I discovered that iMovie was not able to process the very, very complex images, masterpieces (art) that I had produced on Adobe Lightroom 5/PSD, and that I had imported to iMovie as a LR slideshow....and I had done thousands of exquiste edits of highly diverse continuums on still images as a slideshow from Lightroom to about 400 images that I was trying to import into iMovie and askiing iMovie to understand jibberish. They were all JPG I think.

iMovie allowed the editing of the jibberish, but poor thing, was not able to deal with the monsters that I was throwing at him/her....and I understand completely.

When I was tearing out my hair, being very frustrated, I picked up an SD card....and realized at that point, "aHa".....that if I imported the original image directly into iMovie that he/she could probably understand it more clearly......instead of a highly-edited & complex set of images/movie that had been edited in another type of program (a non-Apple program/e.g. Lightroom5 images of very, very complex digital art). So, voila!

I produced an awesome 3 minute movie successfully (Horses in the Tetons) with no problems and it "shared" to YouTube immediately with no problem!

Hooray!

Now I will try again to build up my portfolio and share with others.

In summary: Go to the original images with no/few edits and import those directly to iMovie and let iMovie do the movie processing.....instead of importing media that has been edited extensively in other programs. Keep imports as simple as possible. It will be much, much happier!

the annoying '-50/error in param list' usually is based upon non-standard-compliant material in the project (= simple rule: iMovie is no edits-all-editor.. 😉 )

• iMovie is meant by concept for camcorder material ...

• import only via iMovies own import-routines

• avoid material with variable bit- and/or frame-rates, e.g. iPhone videos, esp. recorded in the dark, or manual converted stuff, using 3rd party apps based upon ffmpg (=many converters do NOT list using that lib! a clear violation of the CC of ffmpg, but ... anyhow).
