I've been using Mainstage for performing and now want to move to recording. If I purchase Logic as well, will it eat up all my storage or does it just share instruments/loops with Mainstage. Thanks for any help anyone.

LPX and MS3 share the same resources: all you would have extra would be the LPX application (around 800M).
