upgrading from os9 to os10

A friend of mine helped me load os10 on my iMac. My programs are all on os9. I want to get rid of os9....can I? How do I do that? Will my programs work in os10? Can I just purchase new programs, if they don't work in 10? Bottom line, I need my programs to run faster and they're slow (I think because I have the two systems). HELP!!

iMac G3 Mac OS 9.0.x

You are in the wrong post, please post your problem in iMac G3, this is for the new Intel iMac.

In short, you'll need OS X software to run on OS X, those in OS 9 will only run in Classic Mode (OS 9 boot into OS X) or in its own OS 9 platform. The later two will of course be slower as compare to running natively in OS X

Cheers
