Jun 9, 2014 8:14 AM in response to rccharlesby ArthurJK,Hi rccharls,
Thanks for your effort in answering. The alternatives to something that is supposed to work and is not working always exist. Unfortunately, from my experience, the path of jumping to alternatives creates a lot of rework and lost time.
If you are one of the creators of alternative services sharking on incompetence of providers and trying to advertise - please do not respond to my emails because I hope for a productive dialogue that will support similar poor souls suffering incompetence and neglegence of Apple captains of software.
I have gone through a detailed review of the problem - now that I have some time - and found that Itunes installation fails to install, or destroys the USB driver for Apple devices. I re-installed it manually - according to support troubleshooting instructions - and it works.
WOW! The culture of allowing for support better than development?! It is a sefty net saying be cautious. I switched off any notifications about updates and upgrades from Apple:). I will have a long break from apple adventures.
Hope this helps someone there who suffered as I did.

Jun 9, 2014 8:32 AM in response to ArthurJKby Ralph9430,I presume that you did update iTunes. If not you'll need to do that.
Then try rebooting your computer and reset your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
