Trouble recording automation for Pitch bend and modulation wheels

Im sorry for such a stupid issue, but I'm having problems with Logic recording both my Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels on my keyboard controller. They work. They just don't record. I have my track either set to Touch or Latch and during playback when I am fiddling with these wheels, the automation data does not get recorded. I went into the Track Automation settings and made sure my Touch/Latch/Write Erase check boxes have been checked (I have all checked except for solo). I don't know if that was the right setting to mess with but it didn't fix it.

Can anyone please tell me what the problem is and how do I get Logic to record automation data for my keyboard wheels? I'd really appreciate any tips or advice...

MIDI data and automation data are fundamentally different.

MIDI data (notes, controllers, pitch wheel, program changes etc) are recorded into regions when Logic is in "record" mode. This has nothing to do with automation.

Automation data (internal Logic events such as faders, pans, plugin parameters) are recorded to the track in automation write/latch modes, and have nothing to do with MIDI data.

So, pitch bend and controllers, being MIDI data, aren't "recordable" by the automation system.

You can use your wheels to control the automation system, for instance, set your mod wheel to control an automation parameter, like a plugin parameter or fader level - for this, use "Automation Quick Access".

I don't know. Maybe because I'm just so used to working with track automation lol. But you're right. Hyperdraw is perfectly fine actually. Plus I like how the data is contained in a region, which makes copying and pasting simple duplicated regions with the identical data a snap.

And thanks Bee Jay. That pretty much explains everything I needed to know. As long as my data is in fact being recorded, then I really shouldn't complain. Just needed some clarification. Thanks again!
