May 18, 2014 11:02 AM in response to mariam98xby Bob Timmons,★Helpfulif i get an imac and place it on the first floor which is closer to the modem will it connect to the wifi normally like any laptop or iphone?
Yes, assuming that the wireless signal is strong enough to provide a good connection.
If a laptop or iPhone will connect in the proposed location for the iMac, the iMac should have no trouble doing so as well.

May 18, 2014 11:01 AM in response to mariam98xby John Galt,★HelpfulAny Apple AirPort Base Station (AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, or Time Capsule) includes a full-featured wireless router. You can replace your existing router with it. Connect the first floor PC to one of the AirPort's LAN ports. The PC on the lower floor will connect to it wirelessly, assuming that PC already has a wireless card. Put away your existing router; you won't need it any more.

Yes.
You don't have to get an AirPort Base Station, but I learned the hard way that they work better than cheaper alternatives, especially in a mixed Mac / Windows / iOS device environment. They're also very secure from malicous outside intrusion, which has recently become a serious problem for people using Linksys routers.
You will need to configure it with an iMac or an iPhone, not with the Windows PC, so get the iMac first.
