Pooley00,
which model MacBook Pro do you have, and which version of OS X is installed on it? (Different versions have different “latest updates”.)
It's MacBook Pro 13 inch late 2011. I can't remember which version is installed though
Pooley00,
since you have a Late 2011 model, you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get past the grey screen now?
Just tried it and still nothing. Still grey and the wheel is still spinning. Have also tried ctrl shift, but nothing.
Pooley00,
are you saying that you were unable to get into Recovery mode, or that you were able to do so and run Disk Utility there, but that it had no effect?
Melophage,
I'm unable to put it into recovery mode or anything else. The grey screen remains whatever buttons I press. Nothing changes.
Melophage,
Thank you for all your help. It finally ran out of power this morning. Plugged it in and finally managed to use the shift button to put it into safe boot. Finally all working and back to normal. Thanks for all your help.
