Thanks for your help, unfortunately those links were unable to clear up the problem. It sounds like something hasnt installed properly because ive never had an issue with itunes before. I had to get a new harddive put into my computer and its only now that ive had this problem. Even when i try to play a music file through itunes it will not play it and open the scan for media page again. Interestingly i can play podcasts, so im completely baffled by this problem.
