Recently I have grown to favor Brother printers over the others. They are inexpensive, their OS X integration is well-implemented, their consumables are reasonably priced, and their technical support is free forever. If you need to call them and explain that you have a Mac, you will immediately receive competent assistance.

Canon is another good choice, followed rather distantly by EPSON. Other manufacturers are not worth considering.

Consider AirPrint compatibility for future needs: AirPrint compatible Brother printers and multifunction devices

Read user reviews from vendor websites - Amazon is a good place to start, since Amazon lets people write almost anything they want... right, wrong, or completely idiotic.

Read the reviews on the respective manufacturers' websites as well, but consider the likelihood of them deleting negative reviews.

Process all those user reviews employing your own common sense, and draw your own conclusions.

Got a Brother B&W laser printer on sale at Best Buy.  $80. The thing is wireless, prints 1400 pages on a toner cartridge, and took about 3 minutes to set up. Wireless mode works flawlessly. Does automatic double-sided pages.

Model TN-40. The driver comes preloaded with OS 10.9. Be careful choosing. Check the cost of replacement toner. That can really bite you hard.

I've had great luck with Canon.  I have a PIXMA MG3120 (The MG3520 is the current version of the "same" printer).  It's perfect for all my needs.  It's multifuncton (print, scan, copy), wireless, and AirPrint capable (great if you have iOS devices).  The print quality is great and it prints double-sided.  It's good value, too, at $80.
