Hi Marie, thanks for your post confirming there is a problem and not just with my itunes.

It sounds exactly the same just a different format maybe down to the different operating system. I do get an error report in the problem reports under system maintenance of windows with no solution for a fix.

I have tried un-installing itunes and re-installing with no effect on the problem.

Hoping its just a faulty update and there be a fix in the next update, I will contact Apple support now I know its not just me.

Hi TT2, and thanks for your suggestions, when I uninstalled I did delete all Apple software except the Apple update service before I reinstalled. Did not carry out a thorough clean after reboot either.

Just to be clear I never experienced this problem with any recent Windows updates, just with the iTunes update which was installed on Saturday. Apologies if I've misunderstood your title to your remedies.

Your library and media should be preseved when reinstalling iTunes. See the Further Information area of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details and a backup tip.

Apple won't reach out and fix your computer now that something has gone wrong. How would they know? A new release of iTunes won't fix the proplem either as the installer won't do the clean out of the program installation folders that is needed prior to a clean reinstall.

However it had no effect on the problem of the message popping up after closing iTunes.😟

That's a shame.

Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up. Do you get the same error when closing iTunes? If not then if you open and close iTunes normally do you get the DEP error?
