Q: Windows Vista problem reports after latest Itunes 11.2 update

me to i have the same problem,i spent 2 hours with apple support re install tunes .SAME THING.thanks

I have now tried the suggestion of opening iTunes, signed into iTunes Store, signed out of iTunes Store, closed iTunes and also no DEP error message either.   That works !!

Biggestted - yes I do have the same original problem - if I only open just iTunes and close agian - DEP error message appears.

Thanks for the reply about updating the iPad through wifi - I hadn't thought of that.  

Yup I have the same issue on Vista.  Have wasted the whole day trying to fix it and now have reverted back to the older version of itunes with all the problems that brought.

Would love to know the fix.

I tried a Quicktime uninstall before the recommendation and it didn't fix it although I didn't do all the checks to see if it was completely removed. 

I've since rolled my itunes back to the previous version and i'm gonna stick with that.  Lost a whole afternoon tryinfg to fix it.  Not going to waste anymore time.

Thanks for getting this information, but as it doesn't seem to be the answer to fixing the problem, I'm not going to even try it.

I am also having this issue like others on this thread. Hopefully they come up with a solution to the issue.

I'm seeing the same data execution protection (DEP) error in my system tray when I close iTunes v. 11.2.2.3 on my 32-bit Vista Home Premium SP2 computer.  When I go to Control Panel | Problem Reports and Solutions | See Problems to Check, I can see an iTunes application error (event name BEX - see the full text here) logged for each DEP shutdown.

Thanks for posting the suggestion from Apple Support.  I haven't had QuickTime on my laptop since I uninstalled v. 7.7.1 in March 2012 and couldn't find an orphaned file named Quicktime.qts or QuicktimeVR.qtx, but I was able to find a file named Quicktime.qtp in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\QuickTime\.  I went ahead and deleted that Quicktime.qtp file but it did not solve my DEP error.

Unlike you, I still get the DEP error if I open the iTunes store and then switch back to my music libray before closing iTunes.  It makes no difference if I am signed in or out of the iTunes store when I try this.

I also tried a complete wipe and reinstall of iTunes v. 11.2.2.3 as instructed in tt2's user tip Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates but that didn't solve the problem either.

I am having this exact same problem with 11.2.2 on Vista. It is more a nuisance than anything since itunes seems to work fine, otherwise. I spent hours doing clean reinstalls of itunes as well as Quicktime to no avail. I tried to go back to another version but after spending time doing that got the message that the earlier version I went back to could not read the Library since it was created with a newer version of itunes! I am sure there is a way around that but decided to just use itunes 11.2.2 rather than mucking around again with it! So after hours spent on trying to solve it myself, I was back to where I started and just accepted the annoying DEP message when I shut itunes down! It just seems like a couple of months ago when another update from Apple itunes left me unable to use itunes until I found on these forms the need to delete ALL components of itunes and start fresh. Come on Apple, you can do better with these updates that cause so many problems for your users. I am sure Steve Jobs is shaking his head in frustration somewhere over the latest!

After reading Walt220's comments, I'm curious now if any users experincing this iTunes v. 1.2.2 shutdown problem also had a problem installing iTunes v. 11.1.4 back in January 2014 because of an error message stating "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer".  I saw this error when I tried to update to v. 11.1.4 in January and had to do a complete wipe and reinstall of all iTunes components to get iTunes working again.

I've been monitoring my iTunes v. 11.2.2 shutdowns with Process Explorer and I noticed that there are multiple threads running under the iTunes.exe process with a start address of MSVCR100.dll!endthreadex+0x80 when the DEP shutdown occurs.  I'm not a tech expert by any stretch of the imagination but I wonder if this is another case of iTunes having problems with the Microsoft C Runtime Library .DLLs on my 32-bit Vista machine.

Sorry, I still haven't found a solution.  I contacted Apple Support by phone and was put on hold  five times before the service rep told me that the DEP error I was describing is caused by a virus and has nothing to do with iTunes.  I've done full system scans with Norton Internet Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and both scans were clean, so unless I have some hidden rootkit on my system, that suggestion by Apple seems highly unlikely.  I suspect the service rep I was talking to at Apple didn't understand that the error occurs when I close my iTunes GUI, and not when I shut down Windows.

I've tried multiple suggestions in other threads related to DEP errors with iTunes v. 11.2.x but nothing has worked so far.  I've noticed that most Vista users in this thread see their DEP error when we try to close iTunes, while 64-bit Win7 and Win8 users in other threads that were able to fix their problem had an issue opening iTunes or trying to connect to the iTunes store.  I wouldn't be surprised if the root cause of the DEP errors on Vista systems is unique to our OS.

Other users that have downgraded from iTunes 11.2.x to iTunes 11.1.x, have reported that they get an error stating "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." If you decide to downgrade, turingtest2 has posted instructions here on how to restore a previous iTunes library.
