Extending the length of FCP transition?

SOS. I want to use the "Loop" transition from the "events" category. It defaults to 22 frames. I want to slow down the transtion to 3 seconds. I right-click the transition to get the "set duration" contextual menu, type 90 in the dashboard, but it refuses to set the length to anything other than 22 frames. I tried openinig from the source into Motion, extending in Motion, saving the template, but the template still insists on 22 frames.

Can any clever soul ride to the rescue?

PS: RTFM no help....
