Setting Resolution to 2560x1440 with Radeon 5870 Graphics Card

I have a Apple 27 LED Cinema Display with a Mini DisplayPort connector. According to the specs I should be able to set resolution for this monitor to 2560x1440. The monitor is driven by an ATI Radeon HD 5870 card from Apple. Currently the only resolution I get is 1920x1200 with no option to change to anything else.

Am I missing something needed to allow me to set this to the upper limit for the monitor?

I've looked at the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter that apple sells but can't see how it could be connected to my monitor.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the response!

The monitor has only a hard wired cable that splits into three seperate connectors. The Mini DP connector which is connected to one of the 2 Mini DP ports on the 5870, a USB connector which is connected to a USB port in back of the mac pro (early 2009) and a mag safe connector which has no use for my setup.

I am going to try resetting both the PRAM & the SMC to see if it makes any difference.

I'll report back what if anything I find out. BTW I do have the ability to select other resolutions but they are all lower than the 1920x1200 it is currently set at!
