what happens when I have registered to 5 computers?

My computer has had to be reformated a few times because of some virus problems. When I reloaded iTunes it said something to the effect of " This is your 4th registered computer. You can register up to 5" What does this mean and what happens at 5? I ask because I am getting a new computer on Tuesday.

Wintel, Windows XP

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

When you hit 5 registered computers, you won't be able to authorize/register any computers anymore.

The message you are getting has to do with the amount of authorized computers to a particular account. You can only register/authorize 5 computers to your current iTunes account.

To learn more about this, see these two Knowledge Base ariticles about this below:

You can authorize up to 5 computers for iTMS
About Authorization and Deauthorization in iTMS accounts

I hope that explains it for you,

Thanks. Is the registration done by my apple account, Mac ID or something else? I ask because I can't unregister the 4 previous computers because they were all the same machine, just rebuilt over and over and over and over (thanks to some spyware)

I'm getting a new box: will I have 5 on that one, or will that be my last registration?
