What does this key do and can i change it?

To the right of the space bar and before the arrow keys there is a button with an upward pointing arrow/triangle with a line over it. does this do anything?

i can't seem to find a use for it and would really like to change it to another option button or the like for final cut pro. the customize option only offers a desktop keyboard layout. can that be changed also?

many thanks in advance.

On my keyboard, the only things between the spacebar and the arrows are:

Appe/Command & Enter

are you talking about the MBP keyboard? An additional keyboard?

Maybe the UK keyboards are a little different though I don't know...

It sounds like you're talking about an external keyboard... possibly logitech?

Some keyboards, especially if they're made for both Mac and PC have additional buttons that may work only on mac, only on PC or on both. I just looked on another keyboard I have and a similar button is there (it seems to be a right click button for a PC potentially)

Hope this helped

This is a UK keyboard on the MacBook Pro. I have exactly the same key on mine.

Is it the Enter key? On my full size mac keyboard, I have the same key in the nuneric keypad, where Enter would be on a PC keyboard. The same symbol is also on the return key on my MB Pro.

Trying it now, it performs the same function as the return key. I don't know about remapping it though.

yes, it is a uk mbp keyboard. your also right i think in assuming its a return key. ive just checked and the same symbol is on the return key but smaller.

strange to have 2 return keys. i guess i'll just work round it (no big deal really) for fcp, if theres no way to remap it.

i assume the big return key is for hard return in word processing, going to a new paragraph
and the small one is for soft return, writting within the same paragraph but going to a new line
usually the combination shift+return used to achieve soft return in common keyboards, but UK keyboards have a dedicated key
good feature for writters and editors

It is the Enter key. It works like the return key in word processing, but has a different uses in other packages, especially accounting and database ones.

In Excel for example it will paste copied stuff into a cell, which the return key will not do.

I wish Apple keyboards still had ctrl, option, command, enter, and return written on them like they used to.

It is the Enter key for the numbers part of the keyboard on the portable computer.

f6 puts the keyboard into the numeric status.

The bottom row of the keyboard is fn, ctrl, alt or option, apple or command, space bar, apple or command, Enter, arrow keys.

Go to Keyboard Viewer and explore the effects of pressing each modifier key. The "fn" key has some interesting results in addition to the usual results of the other modifier keys. That forward delete that you pc folks want so badly is fn + delete.
