Can anyone suggest why my photos won't import from my iPhone?

When trying to import photos from my iphone iphoto opens with the popup box "photos from "my" iphone cannot be imported because it is locked with a passcode, can anyone help with this???

My iphone is NOT locked it is open ( and subsequently switched off to try to resolve the issue ) and furthermore several updates will not now download all seemingly since i downloaded the mavericks 10.9.3 update. Is it me being paranoid or is this mavericks a bit pants!!!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.

Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.
