how do I disable auto selection

When I hover the touch pad curser over a link, question, icon, etc. I pause for a second the touch pad will select that item. I often select items I dont mean to or open links that I did not want to. I have a Mac Airbook June2012 with OSX and this just started over the pass couple days. I have the option for "Tap to Click" turned off. Again I am not tapping or clicking, I just pause over the link and once I release it will select that link. I am not sure how to disable this function, does anyone know how?

Thank you

Chris

Thank you Dominic. I think I am going to head over to the apple store. My warranty is still valid until June 3rd (cutting it close) so I will let them look at. I did play with the settings again and it has helped but strangly it seems to occur more when Safari is open than when it is closed. Very strange but hopefully the Genius Bar will fix it

thank you again
