When I click "Details" and that window opens, the list keeps changing and moving, alternating with a blank window then it appears to start at the "A's: but I can't scroll down as it then renews itself with different URL's so i cant catch it. I've tries selecting all and copy but nothing is there when I try to paste it into a word processor. I should have written that the URL counts keep changing between double digit and tripe digit and back to double digit and so on constantly. - It's as though there are e.g. 50 sites allowed then another 100 get in and are thrown out and it keeps happening repeatedly. This did not happen previously.

I did this using copy-and-paste and it did not find such a folder.

I did some other searches and ended up searching "plist" and got a long list starting from 2007 until today with names beginnig with "info", "cache" "setu" "office" among other but no "cookies". I had set safari privacy to delete all the cookies which it did and then I restarted the computer and Safari. The cookie list in "privacy" is now stable - i.e. not scrolling and changing by itself although, as per ususal, it is adding progressively to itself as I refresh the window.

You're using Safari on Snow Leopard, right ?. If so, that's completely normal...the instructions given don't work. Instead, select the text :

~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist

then ctrl (right or 2 finger) click it & choose Services - Reveal; or continue with Finder - Go menu... & use only the folder name :

~/Library/Cookies

The command-click / reveal didn't come up with any plist (operation not completed as object not found - or words to that effect.

The GO to ~/Library/Cookies showed a cookie folder below the user account which contained the following binary files:

file://localhost/Users/catherinecronin/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist

file://localhost/Users/catherinecronin/Library/Cookies/com.apple.Safari.SafeBrow sing.binarycookies

file://localhost/Users/catherinecronin/Library/Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies_tmp _32370_0.dat

file://localhost/Users/catherinecronin/Library/Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies_tmp _32370_0.dat

Well, at least I've found there is a visible cookie file record - even if I can't read what's in them.

The Safari prefs contiue to behave themselves after the cleanout earlier today - I'd still like to know what went one though - makes me suspicious I suppose.

Thanks for your help andyBall_UK
