Polishing the Clamshell's outer case

I recently acquired a very clean iBook SE 466 Graphite. It is in excellent cosmetic condition but on the, white part of the upper case there are a few scuffs, not even scratches. Other than these the case has that nice unblemished icy glean to it.

These aren't anything I can't live with but since the overall condition is so good, I thought it may be worth investing a little time to polish them away.

Has anyone had experience (successful or not) in trying to remove scuffs or scratches from the white plastic case of a iBook Clamshell? What did you use (successfully or not)?

Thanks,
greg-er

iKlear Apple Polish works great for my clamshell. All over too, not just the white part. Even cleans the screen. It comes as a spray liquid with a microfiber cloth. Just spray it on and polish with the cloth. It is also available as single use disposable “Kloths” that come it a tear open package just like those hand cleaners at rib joints or KFC, although I have found that the best results come from the old fashioned method of spraying and polishing with the microfiber cloth. It nicely fills in those tiny little scratches and even rejuvenates the rubberized portions. I got a kit containing the spray fluid, cloth and about a dozen one time use packets from OWC, but I’ve seen them in Apple stores and other electronics retailers as well.

Thanks Chronic fatigue,

I use iKlear. I was more interested in removing scratches and scuffs rather than cleaning the plastic surface. I was thinking along the lines of a jewelers clothe or something like that. Polishing them out.

I don't know if you can do that with plastic without damaging it. I know jewelers can buff light scratches off the surfaces of plastic watch faces, but an electric buffer is more involved than I care to be.

Thanks for your response.

I use Brasso (brass polish) and jeweler's rouge to manually buff out scratches on CDs. They worked well with my used iceBook.

However, the same rouge that worked manually was a mistake to use with an electric tool (Dremel). I made an iceBook lid's glow-Apple somewhat more milky in a hard-to-describe, but disappointing manner.

Thanks to all that responded.

Upon the hints given by nflemming2004, I looked into the several products available for polishing out scratches on iPod cases.

There are several to use and they all seem to be generally effective, according to a review of various products at "http://playlistmag.com/reviews/2005/08/scratchremove/index.php".

All, though, seem to leave fine scratches or a dulling effect on the plastic it is used on. So I will leave my clamshell's case as it is.
