Same thing happens on Windows 7 (64-bit). iTunes starts up but then a pop-up that "iTunes has stopped working...".

Opening iTunes in Safe Mode (ctrl-shift click on iTunes icon) appears to open it properly and I can back up my iPhone. The knowledge base (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717 and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430) states that it might be a non-Apple add-on, but I looked in C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and have my folders defaulted to view hidden folders and files, and there is no "plug-ins" folder; only the three main folders and executables/library files for iTunes.

I've tried uninstalling (including a deep removal of folders, files, and registry entries) and reinstalling, and the problem persists. My conclusion? A bug in the latest version of iTunes. Time to downrev.

Confirmed. I had to completely uninstall iTunes (and Bonjour) as well as delete the directories as turingtest2 provides in a different discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6562 - second box). I even went as far as removing the registry entries (using Piriform ccleaner -https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) and rebooting my system (the reboot step is the only difference between this attempt and my first response). I then downloaded and installed iTunes as if it were a new installation rather than an upgrade. It now works and my media files and iTunes library were left intact.

Just downloaded latest itunes upgrade, 11.2 same issue. "Can't use itunes because DEP is shutting it down." So I follow instructions to turn off DEP for itunes only, message reads "DEP must be ON in order for itunes to work".

DEP = date execution prevention

My system 32 Bit Windows Vista, never had any itunes problems until today.

Any Apple techs reading blogs??
